Words on Windoze Vista

Ah, Vista--six years overdue, more bloated than ever, and, thanks to protracted development, pricey as heck, not to mention I've heard reports of serious holes in the security. All this I fear will be Microsoft's undoing: unease with the OS' steep price, requirements, and dubious security will prevent widespread adoption, although it will ship with every new computer since it's release. Quite frankly, the platform has been doomed from the start: because it was designed for personal computers, there seemed to be little need for serious security, allowing the inclusion of porous internal boundries for the sake of speed and laziness. This, combined with a fanatical adeherence to backwards compatibility, has crippled it. In my opinion, Microsoft should just make a Dragonfly BSD distro, bolt Wine onto it, and call that the new Windows, although I've read many such distros demanding requirements well above that of the new behemoth. Heck, we could'nt upgrade to Mac OS X.4 until we upgraded our computer, a 2001 500MHz iMac to a 1.8GHz iMac G5; however I know a friend who got it to run on his old 300MHz PowerMac G3--not smoothly, I must add, but adequately.

Bush Must be Shot!

Bush is no doubt one of the greatest morons ever to hold power in any country, right up there with any deranged dictator you could possibly name! He is callous, childish, and power mad, like Hitler without the temper. Heck, all he wanted since the 2000 elections was to be president for the sake of it, and anyone who wants power for it's own sake needs psychiatric treatment, in my opinion. He has taken his country's heavily tarnished reputation and poured hydrochloric acid on it, repeatedly, by going into half-baked wars of questionable morality, blithely ignoring his country's constitution while passing laws that take advantage of his countrymen's considerable paranoia, treating them like shit, and basically abusing his powers, exsistant and non, with incredible gusto, and this man dares to call himself Christian! (I have no religious bias by the way, I just can't stand hypocrisy, I loathe it with a passion!) Therefore, to eliminate and prevent the election of idiots like himself, I declare the foundation of The League of Sane People. Those who want to join can e-mail me at lorincdm@yahoo.co.uk. We can agree on modus operandi later.

What this world needs is a World Police.

Inspired by the questionable movie "Team America: World Police" I thought maybe that would be a good idea: a global police force, administered by the UN, that would police the governments of the nation and enfoce international law! Not quite as violent of course, and definitely far more subtle. This would also prevent debacles like Nike's famous sweatshops. Words do not achive as much as action.

Cardinal Ratzinger is 78!

Update! Pope Ratbag I (Cardinal Razinger/Pope Benedict XVI) is 78! I hope he dies early! *thumbs up*

Ratzinger? POPE? Catholocism is screwed!

Horrible, horrible, ghastly news! Cardinal Ratzinger, the Panzer Cardinal, Joe the Rat, has been elected Pope, and named Pope Benedict XVI!

This ultraconservative psychopath will only doom Catholocism! He will alienate more followers than his predecessor John Paul II!

I hope that Catholo-Nazi falls into a vat of sulfuric acid!!!!

Which is Better: DVD Audio or SACD?

Over the past couple of years, there has been argument over what audio format should supplant Audio CD. I would argue that DVD Audio is the more suitable successor. SACD requires a special player, whereas most people have a DVD player already. DVD Audio uses an audio format that uses 24-bit samples at approximately 96 KHz, SACD uses a rather ridiculous 1-bit sample/2,822,400 Hz audio format called Direct Stream Digital. Finally, while hybrid SACDs have a standard Audio CD layer which allows their use in standard Audio CD players, it also means that the SACD layer goes unused. Ergo, by the arguments above, I think that DVD Audio is the superior format.

Was John Paul II the Best Pope? That's Debateable.

While John Paul II was ceartainly the most charismatic and most well travelled Pope, and he did try to concile with the Jews and the Muslims, he was staunchly dogmatic. He stood firm on the Catholic doctrines of a purely male priesthood and the ban on contraception. He was also slow to respond to the pedophilia of certain American priests, but that may have been because of his age. His views made me ashamed to be a Catholic. When that man's corpse is laid into the ground today, I shall think no better of him. Good-bye, and good riddance. Here's to a more progressive Pope. *clink*
